Half of CervicalCheck women affected not told of possible delayed diagnosis

RTÉ News has learned that an audit on the CervicalCheck controversy has found that around half of the 206 women affected were not told they may have had a delayed diagnosis and may have benefited from earlier treatment.

The audit also identified more than 12 women who have died, but it has yet to be determined if their death was due to a delayed diagnosis.

A serious incident management team is continuing to gather information from around 13 hospitals on the scale of the controversy.

We are looking to recruit a Trainee Solicitor who has completed the FE1 examinations to join our team.

The role will involve assisting in District, Circuit and High Court, criminal and litigation cases. You will also gain experience in the area of conveyancing. 

​This is a full time position with a 3 month probationary period, with a view to a full time training contract. 

Candidates must possess the following:
  • Completed FE1 examinations;
  • Excellent communication and inter personal skills;
  • Attention to details and methodical approach to work;
  • Team player;
  • Able to work on own initiative;
  • Excellent IT skills.

Unborn does not have inherent constitutional rights outside right to life

The Supreme Court has ruled that the unborn has no rights under the Constitution other than the right to life in the Eighth Amendment, in a landmark case about the extent of the rights of the unborn.

The State had appealed a High Court finding that the unborn has constitutional rights beyond the right to life.

Chief Justice Mr Justice Frank Clarke said the judgment was lengthy and complex.

But he said it had been possible to reach consensus on the issue and the decision of the seven-judge court was unanimous. Read More

Man charged with murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe

A Co Armagh man has been charged with the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe more than five years ago.

Aaron Brady (27), of New Road, Crossmaglen, appeared before a special sitting of Dundalk District Court shortly after 8pm last night.

He had been detained by Gardaí in relation to the investigation.

Mr Brady was charged with the murder of a Garda in the course of his duty under Section 3 of the Criminal Justice Act 1990.
